REPORT HORSHAM JULY 3
Over the last three weeks the changeable weather has left the tracks in prime condition. Including a 5 minute downpour at 10:30 this week which meant watering wasnít needed.
Darcy Rogarts stormed the Dave Kent Over 40s scratch race,Even Superfast Kevin Ruddock couldnít quite match his speed.Graham Tills was a gallant third. As the oldest in the class,Paul Schmidt was the first to show in age handicap.I can remember him as a cadet in Horsham schoolboys. He hasnít lost his speed though even Darcy Rogarts and Kevin Ruddock couldnít catch him. David Mayo took the early lead in the ability handicap.holding on until mid race when Paul Schmidt swept by going on to win, with Darcy Rogarts and Kevin Ruddocks chasing him home again.
Mark Dunning was the hot shot in the Hambridge Homes Over 50s scratch race leading in Peter Archer. With Keith Mattingley a distance back in third. Mark Jordan as befits his age seniority led away the age handicap, but Peter Archer shunted him aside on the second lap to take the win. Keith Mattingley followed through a lap later, Paul Schmidt nipping at his heels, like a jack Russell snapping at a Collie, in third on his little 85. Alex Goodridge headed the ability handicap for two laps then quickly slid downfield. As Carl Smith chuntered through for the lead.Mid Race Peter Archer turned up the wick storming off to win from Keith Mattingley and the little terrier Paul Schmidt again.
For once the mad Irishman Ian Williams had to play second fiddle to Brendan Kirby in the Tammy over 60sscratch race. Although Ian turned the tables in the Age handicap and the ability handicap to take the overall.
The Elderfield Mcs Over 40s Pre 95s is usually a war of attritition, this week was no different. Mark Russell ran away with the scratch race from Steven Mattingley and Richard Goodridge.Adam Tabrett had his moment of glory when winning the age handicap from Mark Russell and Steve Mattingley. Richard Goodridge was the early star in the ability handicap, but mid race Adam Tabrett bustled through with Mark Russell up his exhaust. Although Adam did hang on to third.
Elliott Reeves and Connor Disano squabbled throughout all three A group legs.WITH Connor just taking race one, Then Elliott reversed positions in race two. And just took the deciding race three. James Jackman took third first time out with Paul Williams just sneaking third in the next two.
