REPORT NORTHCHAPEL MAY 22
Overnight rain left the track looking excellent first thing in the morning. Unfortunately the sun dried it out. So that James King had to water it after practice. The track dusted up for the last block but it was never really a problem.
Paul Moore turned out for his first Dave Kent over 40s outing of the year, to lead the scratch race from start to finish, pursued by Gary Archer and Dave Hopkins. Gary Archer was in pole after the first lap of the age handicap with Anthony Ford close up. But Paul Moore was on the prod, taking over the lead mid race. That was the way it stayed Paul no1 Gary no 2 and Anthony Ford holding third. The ability handicap[ saw David Mayo had a healthy lead at the end of the opening lap in the Ability handicap Gary Archer. Holding on until the fifth lap when Paul Moore charged through with Gary Archer in tow,Tony Ford annexed third soon after and that was that.
The Hambridge Homes Over 50s is the most popular age related class. Peter Archer for once kept going all day in the scratch race leaving Keith Mattingley Quintin Perrin trailing in his wake. Mark Jordan is the senior rider in the age handicap galloping away to an early lead. Three laps was his lot as Peter Archer charged through the early starters , to take the win. Mark hung on for second with Nathan Noye closing fast in third. Mel Leveret was the early leader in the ability handicap, but two laps was his total, before Steve Ruffell swooped through. Steve hit trouble on the sixth lap as Mark Jordan took up the running, a lap later to win, with Peter Archer on a late charge taking second from Keith Mattingley.
Ian Williams was the Tammy Over 60s superstar taking three easy wins from Brendon Kirby and Barry Williams.
Similarly Mark Russell was unbeatable in the Over 40s Pre95s taking pole each time from Rick Beasley and Alan Goodridge.
Elliott Reeves took three storming wins in the A group. Paul Williams chased him home twice but pulled out of the last leg. Leaving double third placeman Jay Smith to upgrade to second in the last leg ahead of James Jackman.
