Elvetham 10th April 2016 - (Article Date: Friday, April 22, 2016)

REPORT APRIL 10 ELVETHAM MINI GP TRACK

The SMX club members turned out in force at Elvetham for a Lap of Honour, to remember Nicola Ferdinando. Many came in support even though they were not riding just to remember Nicola.A girl always with a ready smile  and a bubbly personality. With her partner Adam they were a popular presence at SMX meetings firstly on Quads then on solos last year. Nicola was leading the Ken Leon Ladies championship and would have almost certainly gone on to win it. When it was discovered after a particularly painful day at Elvetham Forest that she had spinal cancer. She fought bravely but in vain dying recently. The funeral is on Monday 18 April.

Nicola still managed fourth after missing the tail end of the season, and her trophy was presented to an obviously emotional Adam before the Lap of Honour.

After the criticism of the previous weeks cancelation, it was nice to be proven right so quickly. With a dry Saturday and a track that had been left alone, the track quickly dried out, thanks to the drainage put in over 34 years. I rest my case.

Henry Siddiani started the day the way he meant to go on. By annihilating all opposition in the Over 250 Open fourstroke 20 minute race. Steve Elford is a good vintage , showing he still has the taste for trophies when taking a convincing second from Lee Hudson another grown-up.

Colin Marsh had to fight hard for his Boretech 240 fourstroke championship race win as Keith Mattingley swapped places with him early on. Then battered at his back wheel after Colin made the final pass stick in mid race.Williams Cornish got the better of Rob Dudman in the third place scrap.

Hannah Wimbourne was definitely the fast lady in the Ken Leon Ladies championship races. Even the handicapper couldn’t stop her winning all three legs.Rose Burstow took second in the scratch race from Amanda  Schmidt. Amanda Schmidt as the most senior competitor went on to claim second from Natalie Burrows.in the age handicap. Natalie Burrows hung on the claim second in the ability handicap after being first away. Amanda Schmidt took third as Charlotte Williams, machine slowed her in the closing laps.

Robert Hussey had the Elderfield Pre 95s class to himself after Ben Stark retired his250 Honda red rocket.

A group was another runaway hat trick for Henry Siddiani. Behind him It was a two way scrap between Steve Elford and Sam Gabriel for the runner up and third places. With Sam grabbing second first time out after they both passed fast gating Sam Harvey mid race.Steve nabbed second place in the middle leg with Sam hitting back in the last leg. But both had to pass fast gating Sam Harvey each time.
