The Pale lane track was in good condition especially as two inches of rain (a monthís rainfall) had fallen the in the week prior to the event. A few riders were caught out on a short wet section near the end of the lap, early on. But riders soon got the hang of it.

Brent Williams and Gary Archer followed through for second and third.

Paul Johnson managed to keep his Husky going long enough to win the Over 40s Pre 85s scratch race. Alan Davis piped arch rival Ian Mills for second. Paul Johnson was quickly away in the Machine age handicap, but hit problems after leading for two laps gradually slowing over the next two before dropping out.. This let in Steve Titcombe followed by Alan Davis and Ian Mills. Adrian Penfold was looking good at the head of the field in the ability handicap, until taking an unscheduled trip to earth.
