The Pale lane track was in good condition especially as two inches of rain (a monthís rainfall) had fallen the in the week prior to the event. A few riders were caught out on a short wet section near the end of the lap, early on. But riders soon got the hang of it.
Dave |Hopkins complained about being unfit, but still stormed the Dave Kent Over 40s scratch race. Brent Williams took second and Brendon Macdonagh third. Brendon Mcdonagh was the top dog on lap one of the age handicap, hanging on until Brent Williams barked by mid race to win. Dave Hopkins scampered into second on the final lap. Rob Dudman had a rare taste of the leaders jersey in the ability handicap. Bowling along until midway when Dave Hopkins snaffled the win. Brent Williams and Gary Archer followed through for second and third.
Paul Johnson managed to keep his Husky going long enough to win the Over 40s Pre 85s scratch race. Alan Davis piped arch rival Ian Mills for second. Paul Johnson was quickly away in the Machine age handicap, but hit problems after leading for two laps gradually slowing over the next two before dropping out.. This let in Steve Titcombe followed by Alan Davis and Ian Mills. Adrian Penfold was looking good at the head of the field in the ability handicap, until taking an unscheduled trip to earth. Breaking his collarbone. Up stepped Ian Mills for two laps. Before Steve Titcombe His Maico chiming on full chat, at last, to win.Ian clung onto second from Alan Davis. Ian Williams ran away with all three legs of the Tammy Over 60s .Behind him Pete Mitchell finding form took runner up, two seconds, to the one of Mick Huskinson.
Peter Archer dominates the Hambridge Homes Over 50s scratch race from part time grown up Alan Scott and the Devon Express Dave Charrett. Kim Hardy was the early pacemaker in the age handicap but quickly gave way to dashing Dave Charrett. Daveís lead was short lived as Peter Archer took over a lap later to win.Dave also had to give best to Alan Scott.Kim Hardy tore away i the ability handicap holding pole position until Kevin Burgess grabbed the reins. Alan Scott took over the running for the last three laps, even holding off the rampant Peter Archer, to win.Kevin Burgess held off the rest for third
Paul Williams galloped to three wins in the A group Steve Gesner showed he hadnít lost any of his speed when taking two seconds and a third for second overall. Connor Disano flew to third in the first leg but faded in the second to fifth after another bright start, missing the last leg. Sean Howard-Cook was fourth in the opening, grabbed third in the middle race, then second in the last one.
